Characters

The opening sequence of Donnie Darko has many different characters of old, middle and teenage. We first see a group of boys jumping out of a school bus with props such as bags. The bags reflect how they are ready to learn and what type of characters they are. We immediately see the opposite of this which is the 'Jock' who is just in a t-shirt and has no bag. He then makes a face at his teacher. We see from this that he is the one that isn't really concentrating on his education.

We are also able to see the different type of teenagers in the background and by there body language such as; the bully-when he gives the 3 boys a look and they walk away, the pretty girl- in the mirror of her locker and we also see the jock/bully taking drugs.

We are then introduced to more teachers and see that their attention isn't really with the children as he turns away when he sees boys sniffing drugs.

We also see that it is a school of all ages when we see a young girl dancing with her friends, so it tell us a lot about the school. In conclusion, The opening sequence has given us so much information about the characters even though there is no dialogue and we have to analyse there body language alone. However, it is easy to do this as there are very strong characters in Donnie Darko.
